Host and distribute content via circulation manager

    Details

    • Epic Name:
INITIATIVE: Support Open Acces Content distribution through Circulation Manager

      Description

As a Librarian I want to host and distribute locally produced content and distribute through SimplyE.

As a library I want to improve patron access to digital materials through SimplyE

As a product Manager I want to improve access to open access and public domain materials from libraries

As a library I want to provide Open Access content and Public Domain content without purchasing or licensing it from a vendor

      Goal

Improve user experience accessing Open Access, Public Domain and locally hosted ebooks from a library

      Due Date

      July 2018

      MVP Scope

      • SimplyE Collection
      • Open Text Books (Minitex)
      • Open Shelf (DPLA)
      • Public Domain Materials

Currently, Open Access Materials and Non-DRM content (such as Public Domain) can be locally hosted by a library on basic server file storage. A separate SimplyE app server called the OA Content Server can be used to generate an OPDS catalog feed of that content for discovery and downloading of content through SimplyE apps. It also provides tools to ingest MARC records to help curate the locally hosted selection of content. This project will move the functionality into the Circulation Manger to simplify access to the functionality for consortia as well as enable capture of circulation analytics.
