Format information is not presented in text. Where author information is presented, format information should be presented in visual text.
To be more explicit about that last statement "Where author information is presented in text, format information should be as well.": This means that in the book detail view, the format should be treated the way the author information is. It should be written out (visually) in the same way following the author information. If it is presented the same way as the author field, users of screenreaders will be able to read it as well. When this is implemented for the book detail page, we do not need to include an alt with format information for the cover image. The cover image can continue to be treated as it currently is with no alt text, as it is decorative.
The work to add "audiobook" to badged cover images is listed in SIMPLY-1425.
On Book Detail page:
- Format included in visible text (see forthcoming screenshot)
- Cover image not focusable by VoiceOver; does not have alt text.
