On a popular library, the code to generate CSV files of analytics data takes so long to gather a single day of data that an admin interface request to do so times out.

Either performance needs to be improved or we need to come up with a strategy for running these reports in the background.

Fortunately, the code has not been optimized and it's possible to make it much faster without changing what it does or how the data is stored.
