We determined that the reason for the recent crashes in SimplyE is the presence of a `precondition` instruction inside Readium that if triggered will cause a crash. I discussed the problem with Readium engineering and we agreed that we can submit a PR to propose a solution removing the `precondition` and changing the incriminated initializer to a `throws` initializer, allowing downstream code to handle the error situation more gracefully.
